10 dynamics of a successful website - part 1

The first five most people know, but they fall down on the fine points that make them work. The second five are less known and are not done because they take time.
All 10 are vital to be successful and it is the balance of the 10 that makes a website zing.

Most people only do the first three and call it good.

 

1. Quality of your work

 

Quality does NOT get you traffic, but it keeps them looking. We can not BUILD a photograph and they will come. It does not work that way. People do not find you because you are good, but they return and tell others because they like the quality of your work and service. If you go to the effort of bringing people to your site, you want them to return on their own accord. Quality is important.

2. Ease of site navigation

 

Everybody has their own idea of ease of navigation because there of different ways people think and process information. The true test of if your website is easy to navigate is to go to Alexa stats and see how many page views per user your site receives. If it is less than 5 you need to work on it.

3. Design of website

 

Is it easy to look at? Are you directing viewers to essential content? Does each page have its own reason for being? Do background or type take away from the purpose? Is it easy to read? Have you targeted your market? Does it stand out from other sites? Is it remembered? The design of your website is similar to the quality of your images. As you know there are a lot of details that go into an image. Don't leave it to a neighbor's kid to solve your business decisions.

4. Search engine optimization (SEO)

 

SEO is taking each page and making it easy for search engines to read and categorize. Search engines think differently than you and I. (OK I am assuming that you're not a computer programmer) Search engines work from complex mathematical equations called algorithms. Plus the search engines change them on a daily basis making them more difficult. They do this to sell ads.

5. Links.

 

Links are vital to obtain high Google rankings. However, I refuse to play Google Games or Facebook Follies. Today's buyers could care less about Google or Facebook. That was not the case a few year's back. I like links because it helps me go viral. I would much rather have  a referred lead than a Google or Facebook lead. It still helps some to be up on Facebook and Google but don't give them money or your valuable time.
